Students Shine in Wagonhound Land & Livestock Co. Competition Print E-mail

On Saturday, March 3rd, 2007 Colorado State University Equine Sciences and the Equine EventEms_Zach.png Management class hosted a competition for students of the Horse Training Laboratory. The competition was sponsored by Wagonhound Land & Livestock Co. Students competed for the coveted prize of a custom, hand-made saddle, donated and crafted by their fellow Equine Science student, Zach Iddings and $5000.00 worth of scholarship money donated by Wagonhound Land and Livestock Co. Each student that competed worked with their horse all fall and spring to reach this competition. Event management students took care of the details for the day and had the show running smoothly and on-time. It was a day for students to show off their horses and skills to faculty, consignors, family and friends.

Will French, from Fort Collins, CO, took first in the salesmanship portion. His grey filly, Miss A Rap, is consigned by the Bartlett Ranch. He also placed in the top-five of the riding portion with Pretty Good Pick, a sorrel mare from the Four Sixes Ranch. Emily Rapp, from Durango, CO took first in the riding portion aboard Taris Punkin Bar, a sorrel gelding consigned by the T-Cross Ranch. Emily was second in the salesmanship portion with Navajo Stik, a brown gelding consigned by Major Cattle Co. Students placing in the top-five were rewarded with scholarships, ribbons and other prizes.

Many of the horses participating in the student competition will be sold in the Legends of salesmanhip.pngRanching Performance Horse Sale, March 10, 2007 and others will return to their respective ranches. “This competition allowed our students to really show-off what they have been working so hard on up to this point.” said Bobbie Skelton, instructor for the training class. “They deserved a day to shine and I am very proud of the progress they have made with these young horses.”
