Equine Teaching and Research Center
The hub of the Equine Sciences Program at Colorado State is the Equine Teaching & Research B.W. Pickett Arena, a $5.2 million facility, has a football field-sized indoor arena equipped with seating for 2,000 spectators, concession stands, ticket booths, faculty offices, a multimedia classroom, outdoor arena, roundpens, sheds and paddocks. Recent renovations include the Kelley Bartlett Conference room and Student Lounge. The Center is adjacent to the Equine Reproduction Laboratory, where research work is conducted in mare and stallion management. Procedures include artificial insemination, transported, cooled and frozen spermatozoa, hormonal therapy, and embryo transfer and manipulation. The close proximity of the Equine Reproduction Laboratory allows for mutual use of equipment, personnel, classrooms and laboratory space. Located at the base of the foothills, the Equine Center has access to miles of trails in nearby Lory State Park, Rocky Mountain National Park, and Roosevelt National Forest. Students in packing and outfitting classes are given the opportunity to enjoy the challenge and beauty of the Rockies. Colorado State's ETRC is available for public use when not required for teaching or research purposes. The facility can accommodate horse shows, rodeos, dressage competitions, polo matches, livestock shows, judging contests and seminars. |
