History
Preparation for Horse Competition or AN201 started in the fall semester of 2005. The class is designed to teach students the different aspects of preparing a horse and rider for competitions. Students learn what is required by the different shows and associations in regards to memberships, veterinary inspections, etc. They keep record books on the care and training of the horse they will be showing. They learn how to drive the truck and trailer, set up the stall curtains and tack stall during the shows, braid or band manes, clip muzzles, bridle paths and legs, and work together as a team to groom for one another at the different competitions. Most importantly, the students are introduced to "real-life" industry situations and have the opportunity to meet industry professionals for future internships and employment when they graduate. A student may take AN201 for a maximum of two semesters in each discipline (English and western). A maximum of 12 students will be selected in each discipline for fall semester. Applications will be available for this class on the Equine Science homepage (www.csuequine.com) each spring. The applications will be followed by a tryout/riding evaluation. With the addition of this new class and show team, Colorado State University NO LONGER competes in the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) and we are not affiliated with NCAA.
