Equine Sciences at Colorado State is an international leader in research with orthopaedics and reproduction the two focuses of expertise. Notable achievements include:

  • A reproductive program that sculpted technology for the world's first genetically identical twin foals produced by bisection of an embryo recovered from the uterus of one mare and transferred to the uterus of a surrogate dam.
  • The development of new and currently used techniques for seminal collection, evaluation, and preservation by cooling and freezing; development of equine embryo transfer techniques that are used commercially worldwide.
  • An orthopaedic program that is pioneering research in the cause and treatment of traumatic arthritis and osteoarthritis, including development and testing of medical and surgical techniques for the treatment of joint disease.

 

Faculty in Equine Sciences are constantly looking for well-qualified and talented students. Three types of educational programs are available: Postdoctoral fellows, Doctoral students and Masters degree students. Students receive support from a variety of sources and have the opportunity to conduct original research with highly qualified Faculty coupled with world class facilities.
